Growing Giant Garden Paste Hybrid Tomato

‘Giant Garden’ is a hybrid tomato prized for its meaty texture and excellent sauce-making qualities. Bright red, boat-shaped fruits are slightly ribbed and crack resistant, with firm flesh that balances sugary sweetness with tangy acidity.

Start ‘Giant Garden’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This variety is noted for excellent disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 89 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and mature bright red color.

Meaty, sweet-tangy, and productive, ‘Giant Garden’ is especially well suited to sauces and pastes.

Giant is an understatement

I grew 6 plants this year as an experiment. Well, the 4-6 ft listed for size is a joke. My plants are well over 10 ft tall. We have had prolific fruiting with little bug invasion. As for the fruit, I have roasted them and pureed into a very meat sauce with little water. I look forward to more of these in my future.

Tried this for 2 years to give it a fair trial, plants are vigorous with good fruit set, but those are the only good qualities on this variety. The taste is bland with no acid, fruits are heavily "boated" often curling around so much that it splits and most of the tomato has to be trimmed out. Opalka and San Marzano are my 2 go-to paste varieties, if anyone wants to know what my comparison is

Odd shape

Grew this tomato for the first time last season. Large, meaty, odd shaped fruit, fairly prolific. Good choice for canning but wouldn't work as a market tomato.
