Growing Information

Growing Borage

Borage is a beautiful culinary herb prized for its refreshing cucumber-like flavor, soft gray-green foliage, and star-shaped flowers in shades of blue and pink. Both the foliage and edible blooms add interest to the kitchen, while the abundant flowers attract bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Start Borage indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about Β½ inch deep and space plants about 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun. Plants reach approximately 18 to 24 inches tall and offer good drought tolerance once established.

Ready to begin harvesting in about 55 days, gather young leaves and flowers as needed.

Fresh, colorful, and versatile, Borage is excellent for salads, garnishes, lemonade, summer drinks, edible flower decorations, and pollinator-friendly gardens.
