Catskill Brussels Sprouts
Growing Catskill Brussels Sprouts
‘Catskill’ is a classic heirloom Brussels sprout prized for its dependable yields, sturdy growth, and flavorful sprouts. Strong plants produce numerous firm, round, deep green sprouts along tall stalks, with each sprout developing a tender texture and rich, slightly sweet flavor.
Start ‘Catskill’ indoors for transplanting, sowing seeds about ¼ inch deep. Space plants about 18 to 24 inches apart and grow in full sun. Brussels sprouts perform best in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture and cool growing conditions.
Ready to harvest in about 90 to 110 days, begin picking the firm sprouts from the bottom of the stalk upward once they reach about 1 to 2 inches across. Cool temperatures and light frost can help enhance their sweetness and flavor.
Tender, hearty, and flavorful, ‘Catskill’ is excellent for roasting, sautéing, steaming, grilling, and other cooked dishes.
