German Giant Radish
Growing German Giant Radish
‘German Giant,’ also known as ‘Parat,’ is an heirloom radish prized for its impressive size, crisp texture, and mild sweetness. Scarlet-red roots can grow as large as a baseball while remaining tender and flavorful without becoming pithy or cracking.
Sow ‘German Giant’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 28 days, begin pulling roots when they are as small as a marble or allow them to size up considerably while they remain crisp and sweet.
Mild, crunchy, and versatile, ‘German Giant’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, snacking, and pickling.
