Growing Information

Growing Aztec Sunset Zinnia

‘Aztec Sunset’ is an open-pollinated zinnia and 2007 Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner prized for its bold bicolor blooms, compact growth, and prolific flowering. This Zinnia haageana variety produces mostly fully double flowers in rich, warm shades, creating a vibrant carpet of color across well-branched plants.

Plant ‘Aztec Sunset’ seeds about ¼ inch deep and space plants 9 to 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun. Germination typically takes 3 to 7 days. Its compact, spreading habit makes this variety especially well suited to smaller gardens, borders, and containers.

Ready to bloom in about 70 days, enjoy the flowers as they open and reach their best display stage. Regular cutting and deadheading can help encourage continued flowering throughout the season.

Bold, colorful, and floriferous, ‘Aztec Sunset’ is an excellent choice for ornamental beds, borders, cut flower gardens, and pollinator-friendly plantings.
