Red Sails Lettuce
Growing Red Sails Lettuce
‘Red Sails’ is an award-winning open-pollinated lettuce and 1985 All-America Selections Winner prized for its early maturity and beautiful bronze-red foliage. Slightly ruffled leaves bring vivid color and tender texture to fresh garden harvests.
Start ‘Red Sails’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ⅛ inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.
Ready to harvest in about 43 days, pick leaves at the size you prefer, taking younger growth for an especially tender harvest.
Colorful, tender, and early, ‘Red Sails’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and mixed greens.
