Buttercrunch Lettuce
Growing Buttercrunch Lettuce
‘Buttercrunch’ is an award-winning open-pollinated lettuce and 1963 All-America Selections Winner prized for its buttery texture, crisp leaves, and classic Bibb flavor. Compact heads produce thick, juicy, mid-green foliage with a sweet taste and excellent resistance to bolting.
Start ‘Buttercrunch’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ⅛ inch deep and space plants 8 to 10 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. Its compact growth makes this variety especially well suited to smaller gardens and both spring and fall planting.
Ready to harvest in about 65 days, pick outer leaves as needed or harvest the compact head once it reaches the desired size.
Sweet, buttery, and crisp, ‘Buttercrunch’ is excellent for fresh eating, salads, lettuce wraps, and sandwiches.
