Growing Information

Growing Millionaire Hybrid Eggplant

‘Millionaire’ is a productive Japanese-type hybrid eggplant prized for its early maturity, slender deep purple fruits, and sweet, refined flavor. Originally imported from Kyoto, Japan, this variety produces nearly seedless fruits with a smooth, uniform texture and no bitterness. Upright plants are highly productive and unusually tolerant of extreme heat.

Start ‘Millionaire’ indoors for transplanting about ¼ inch deep. Space plants 3 to 4 feet apart and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety performs especially well in warm summer conditions.

Ready to harvest in about 54 days, begin picking the fruits while the skin is still soft, glossy, and deeply colored. Harvest regularly to maintain the best texture and flavor.

Sweet, tender, and versatile, ‘Millionaire’ is excellent for stir-fries, roasting, sautéing, grilling, and everyday cooking.

I love it!

This is my first time to grow eggplants in TX and it's going very well. I started seed indoor in Feb, they sprouted 100% (wow!). At the end of March I transplanted them to small pots and leave them outdoor. Then in early May I repotted them to large pot. I had aphid problem at first, but they thrived. Since I use large container, instead of bed, I harvest them early, about 6" in length. So the plants get too tired to producing fruits. I am very satisfied this purchase. I will grow again next year, too.

Early Pick

Picked first Millionaire eggplant 53 days from transplanting. Excellent germination, grew rapidly, tolerate Arkansas heat and humidity exceptionally well, beautiful deep purple fruit. At least a month earlier than other eggplants I've grown. Will grow again next year.
