Napa Chinese (Sui Choy) Cabbage
Growing Napa Chinese (Sui Choy) Cabbage
‘Sui Choy’ Napa Chinese Cabbage is a cool-season variety known for firm, cylindrical heads, crisp ribs, and a sweet, tangy flavor that is more delicate than ‘Bok Choi’ or traditional cabbage. The tightly packed, crinkled leaves are light green on the outside with pale yellow interiors and prominent, celery-like ribs.
Start ‘Sui Choy’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly in the garden during cooler spring or fall weather. Grow plants in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture to encourage quick, even growth and well-formed heads.
Harvest the heads once they feel firm and tightly packed. Consistent moisture throughout the growing period helps maintain the tender leaves and crisp stems that make Napa cabbage especially enjoyable fresh or lightly cooked.
‘Sui Choy’ is especially well suited for stir-fries, wraps, salads, slaws, soups, and other Asian-style dishes
