Growing Information

Growing Chef's™ Choice Black Hybrid Beefsteak Tomato

‘Chef’s™ Choice Black’ is a hybrid slicing tomato prized for its deep blackish-red color, meaty texture, and complex flavor. Large 8- to 10-ounce fruits combine classic tomato sweetness with a subtle savory quality, producing an especially distinctive tomato for gardeners who enjoy richly flavored varieties.

Start ‘Chef’s™ Choice Black’ indoors for transplanting about ¼ inch deep. Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart and grow in full sun. This productive variety offers resistance to Verticillium Wilt, Fusarium Wilt, and Tobacco Mosaic Virus.

Ready to harvest in about 75 days, begin picking fruits once they reach full size and develop their characteristic deep blackish-red color while remaining firm and glossy.

Rich, meaty, and flavorful, ‘Chef’s™ Choice Black’ is excellent for fresh eating, slicing, sandwiches, salads, and sauces.

Not what I expected

I was very disappointed with what I got from these! More like standard orange tomato and on the smaller side! Nothing even close to the picture and description ! I buy for taste and disease resistance. Not great on either count! Maybe someone sent the wrong item. Ian still looking for a tomato with the dark color, great heirloom taste, and really good disease resistance. And one not difficult to grow. This tomato was big disappointment!! Just letting you know.

I got a saladette Red tomato

All my Chef Choice tomatoes this year did not grow as expected. The Yellow, Black, and Orange all grew as random red tomatoes.

Not Chefs Choice black

These do not look anything like Chefs Black Choice. Nice tasty tomato but definitely not what I was expecting. I think someone messed up the seeds.
