Orient Wonder Pole Bean

‘Orient Wonder,’ also known as an asparagus bean, is a vigorous pole variety prized for its exceptionally long, slender pods and abundant production. The tender beans have a classic bean flavor with a subtle asparagus-like note and are especially popular in Asian-style cooking.

Sow ‘Orient Wonder’ directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. The vigorous climbing vines require a strong trellis, fence, or other sturdy support as they grow.

Although the pods can become quite long, harvest them at about 12 inches for the most tender texture and best eating quality. Check plants frequently and pick regularly to encourage continued production throughout the season.

‘Orient Wonder’ beans are especially well suited for stir-fries, sautéing, and other quick-cooking dishes. The slender pods cook well with high heat and retain a pleasantly crisp texture when harvested young.
