Bluecrop Blueberry Northern Highbush Plants

‘Bluecrop’ is a benchmark Northern Highbush blueberry variety prized for its heavy yields, large berries, and classic sweet blueberry flavor. Vigorous, upright plants produce abundant clusters of firm, light blue fruit and are known for dependable performance year after year.

Plant ‘Bluecrop’ in full sun, spacing plants about 4 to 5 feet apart in rows 8 to 10 feet apart. Choose well-drained, acidic soil with a pH of about 4.5 to 5.5, amending with peat moss or sulfur if needed. Keep the soil evenly moist, mulch with pine bark or pine needles to help maintain acidity, and fertilize lightly in early and late spring with an acid-form fertilizer. Prune lightly during the first two years, then remove weak or older woody stems as plants mature.

Best suited to USDA Zones 4–8, ‘Bluecrop’ is cold-hardy, productive, and disease-resistant. It is self-pollinating, but planting it near another Northern Highbush variety such as ‘Blueray’ or ‘Chandler’ can improve yields and berry size. Protect ripening fruit from birds as needed.

Note: Northern Highbush blueberries perform best in cooler climates (USDA Zones 4–8) and are not recommended for southern regions with mild winters or low chill hours.
