Growing Information

Growing Sweet Mama Hybrid Winter Squash

‘Sweet Mama’ is an award-winning hybrid winter squash and 1979 All-America Selections Winner prized for its compact plants and generous yields. Dark green, drum-shaped fruits contain thick, dry yellow flesh with a sweet flavor.

Start ‘Sweet Mama’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Compact semi-bush vines are especially well suited to smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick fruits once fully mature and their dark green rind has hardened.

Sweet, hearty, and space efficient, ‘Sweet Mama’ is excellent for roasting, baking, mashing, everyday cooking, and storage.
