Growing Information

Growing Sierra Blanca Hybrid Onion

'Sierra Blanca’ also known as ‘Super Star,’ is an award-winning hybrid onion and 2001 All-America Selections Winner prized for its exceptional sweetness, large size, and wide adaptability. Glossy white bulbs offer mild, sweet flavor and good keeping quality, making this variety useful both fresh and cooked.

Start ‘Sierra Blanca’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep and space plants 12 to 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This cold-tolerant variety is also well suited to containers.

Ready to harvest in about 105 days, lift bulbs once they have reached full size and maturity and cure them before storage.

Sweet, large, and versatile, ‘Sierra Blanca’ is excellent for fresh slicing, salads, grilling, roasting, everyday cooking, and storage.
