Hubam Sweet Clover
Growing Hubam Sweet Clover
‘Hubam’ is an open-pollinated annual sweet clover prized for its abundant white flowers, exceptional nectar production, and value as a soil-building crop. Plants complete their life cycle in a single season and produce a heavy bloom that is especially attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Plant ‘Hubam’ seeds about ¼ to ½ inch deep by broadcasting or spacing plants roughly 2 to 4 inches apart. Germination typically takes 7 to 14 days. Sow approximately 4 ounces per 500 square feet from early spring through July. This drought-tolerant variety adapts to a wide range of soils, including heavier alkaline conditions.
Reaching maturity in about 200 days, plants can provide abundant flowers for pollinators along with useful early-summer forage and hay.
Adaptable, productive, and pollinator friendly, ‘Hubam’ is an excellent choice for cover cropping, nitrogen fixation, forage, hay production, and bee-friendly plantings.
