Growing Information

Growing King Arthur Hybrid Bell Pepper

‘King Arthur,’ formerly known as ‘Fat ’n Sassy,’ is a hybrid bell pepper prized for its early maturity, large size, and exceptional sweetness. Heavy yields of blocky, four-lobed fruits develop quickly and mature from deep green to bright red, with thick walls and juicy, sweet flesh.

Start ‘King Arthur’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 12 to 18 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Compact plants reach about 22 inches tall and are well suited to containers and smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 62 days, pick fruits green or allow them to ripen fully red.

Large, sweet, and dependable, ‘King Arthur’ is excellent for fresh eating, stuffing, grilling, stir-fries, salads, and everyday cooking.

King Arthur

I have grown several varieties and this one for several years. The only sweet bell I grow. Great pepper for production and taste. My favorite.

So far no good.

First order arrived with no seeds in the packet. Seeds n such sent another packet of seeds but after two weeks there's no sign of germination.

Just planted

I just planted the seed under my grow lights on a heat mat. Here in Ohio I do not start my seeds too early.

So far so good

Great germination rates on 2026 seed for King Arthur Peppers. Out of 12 seeds planted, 11 healthy plants came up.
I've planted this particular variety for three years in a row with very good success. Heavy producer of nice sized peppers. My plants were so full last year that branches which weren't supported by a tomato cage broke from the weight of all the peppers.
