Growing Information

Growing Santa Cruz Sunset Begonia

‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ is a vigorous begonia prized for its brilliant orange-red flowers, trailing growth, and exceptional summer performance. Masses of sunset-colored blooms cascade over lush foliage from early summer until frost, bringing bold color to baskets, containers, and patio plantings.

Start ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ indoors for transplanting. Surface sow the seeds without covering them and space plants 12 to 15 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade. This heat-tolerant variety is especially well suited to containers and performs beautifully in smaller spaces.

Ready to bloom in about 120 days, enjoy the flowers as they open and reach their best display stage. Fast-growing plants produce a continuous cascade of color throughout the summer season.

Bold, trailing, and heat tolerant, ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ is an excellent choice for hanging baskets, containers, window boxes, bedding displays, and patio planters.

begonia seed hard to sprout

These barely popped up, very sickly, then expired. But, in all fairness, I was told Begonias are difficult to sow & sprout.
