Bright Lights Swiss Chard
Growing Bright Lights Swiss Chard
‘Bright Lights’ is a colorful open-pollinated Swiss chard and 1998 All-America Selections Winner prized for its brilliant stems, mild flavor, and ornamental appeal. Plants produce a rainbow of gold, pink, orange, purple, red, and white stems topped with green or bronze, lightly savoyed leaves. The flavor is mild and slightly sweet, making this variety as useful in the kitchen as it is beautiful in the garden.
Start ‘Bright Lights’ seeds indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ½ inch deep, space plants about 4 inches apart, and grow in full sun to partial shade. This cold-tolerant variety also performs well in containers.
Ready to harvest in about 55 days, pick leaves at your preferred size, choosing younger growth for the most tender texture.
Mild, colorful, and versatile, ‘Bright Lights’ is excellent for fresh salads, sautéing, steaming, and everyday cooking.
