Thumbelina Heirloom Carrot
Growing Thumbelina Heirloom Carrot
‘Thumbelina’ is a charming heirloom carrot and 1992 All-America Selections Winner known for its petite size, sweet flavor, and wide adaptability. The round, golf ball-sized roots have a crisp, tender texture with sugary sweetness and subtle herbal notes. Their bright pumpkin-orange skin holds its color beautifully when cooked, and the small roots are tender enough to enjoy without peeling.
Sow ‘Thumbelina’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants 2 to 4 inches apart and grow in full sun to partial shade. Its compact size makes this variety especially well suited to containers and smaller garden spaces.
Ready to harvest in about 60 days, begin checking the roots as they approach maturity and pull them once they reach your preferred size while they are still crisp and tender.
Sweet, crunchy, and easy to use, ‘Thumbelina’ is excellent for fresh eating, canning, and storage.
