Growing Information

Growing Silver Queen (white) Hybrid Sweet Corn

‘Silver Queen’ is a classic hybrid sweet corn prized for its tender texture, sugary flavor, and distinctive silver-white kernels. Tall, vigorous stalks produce plump, dark green ears filled with 14 to 16 rows of sweet, extra-tender kernels. The ears also hold well on the stalk, giving gardeners added flexibility at harvest time.

Sow ‘Silver Queen’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep once the soil has warmed to at least 65°F for reliable germination. Space plants about 3 feet apart and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety performs well through warm summer conditions.

Ready to harvest in about 86 days, begin checking the ears as they approach maturity and pick them at peak eating quality when the kernels are plump, tender, and juicy.

Sweet, tender, and classic, ‘Silver Queen’ is excellent for fresh eating and canning.

Excellent germination

I planted 80 seeds on 5-14-26, and 72 germinated in 5 days by 5-19-26 for a 90% germination rate. It may even get better in a few more days. After eight days the germination rate was 99%. Only one seed failed to germinate.
