Growing Information

Growing Big Zac™ Hybrid Giant Beefsteak Tomato

Big Zac™ Hybrid Giant Beefsteak Tomato Seeds are bred for serious size and serious flavor. Originating from breeder Minnie Zaccaria of New Jersey, this hybrid combines a giant red beefsteak with a massive pink heirloom to deliver enormous, meaty fruits without sacrificing taste. Expect the classic “real tomato” profile—full-bodied, slightly acidic, and wonderfully tangy—packed into show-stopping slicers that anchor summer sandwiches, platters, and caprese plates.

Maturing in about 80 days, plants are vigorous, indeterminate, and productive in full sun. With attentive feeding, deep watering, and strong support, Big Zac™ reliably sets extra-large fruits that commonly reach 4–6 pounds. Flesh is dense yet juicy with minimal watery pockets, and the smooth exterior finishes clean for an impressive presentation. Gardeners appreciate the variety’s overall resilience and adaptability, which help maintain fruit quality through hot spells and extended harvests.

If you’re aiming for bragging rights—or just love supersized tomatoes with authentic garden flavor—Big Zac™ Hybrid Giant Beefsteak Tomato Seeds deliver a rare combination of competition-scale size, dependable yields, and the eating quality that keeps this variety a legend.

Big Zac

Big Zac is huge and has a great taste. If you're making a BLT, you'll have to cut each slice in half.

Grew this specifically for the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, Ca. She took 1st place for Largest Tomato! She was beautiful. Grew her in a wine barrel too!!

Excellent germination

I just planted them outside today. Germination was very good. Looking forward to seeing how they do and how well they produce.

Grandma Zac

This is my Great Aunt’s tomato hybrid. She’s won numerous awards for her sizable yields with this blend. She passed in her 90s just a few years ago, so it’s really beautiful to be able to keep her alive with these seeds.

It’s always a pleasure to grow a Big Zac tomato in my garden.

Big Zac seeds

I was so excited to purchase these seeds and have huge tomatoes. I started them inside as recommended and put them out at the right time for this area. Zone 6-7. I now have a HUGE plant full of blooms that eventually fall off. Absolutely not one tomato. I am so very disappointed. $3.99 for 8-10 seeds which I was willing to spend to get the fruit. Not sure I will try again. I am not the only one from this area that has gotten no fruit at all.
