Growing Information

Growing Toma Verde (Green Husk) Tomato

‘Toma Verde,’ also known as 'Green Husk' is an open-pollinated tomatillo prized for its tart yellow-green fruits and classic culinary versatility. The fruits develop inside papery husks and bring the bright, tangy flavor traditionally associated with green tomatillos.

Start ‘Toma Verde’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 18 to 24 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety thrives through warm growing conditions.

Ready to harvest in about 70 days, pick fruits while they are green and remove the husks before cooking.

Tart, bright, and versatile, ‘Toma Verde’ is excellent for salsa verde, sauces, salads, and everyday cooking.

Poor results

Zero sprouts first planting. Second planting with remaining seeds less than half emerged. Struggling to keep them alive. Going to a nursery today to buy plants. Very disappointing.
