Growing Information

Growing Spacemaster 80 Cucumber

‘Spacemaster 80’ is a compact open-pollinated cucumber prized for its space-saving growth, crisp texture, and dependable production. Short vines produce slender, dark green fruits with a mild, bitter-free flavor, making this variety an excellent choice for containers, small gardens, and trellised growing spaces.

Start ‘Spacemaster 80’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants about 12 inches apart and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety is well suited to containers and smaller gardens and is also noted for good disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 60 days, begin picking the fruits once they reach a usable size while they are still firm, crisp, and tender. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production and maintain the best texture and flavor.

Crisp, mild, and refreshing, ‘Spacemaster 80’ is excellent for fresh slicing, salads, sandwiches, and snacking.

I'm not creative enough for a titile

The seeds I got have had 100% germination so far. I bought this particular type of cucumber for its noted disease resistance.

Excellent provider

I bought and have Spacemaster 80 & Ashley in the same bed and I'm not sure which is which anymore but they're both great tasting, not seedy, even when I pick them too late. The plants were resilient to several heat waves and don't show any signs of slowing down when other varieties in other years would have been dying back by now. The vines have had multiple instances of five cucumbers that look like hands when they're small and they're ready within a week. Most vines are in the 4-5 foot length range. I've probably picked an average of 7 per plant in the last week and lots of "fingers" on the vines.
