Growing Information

Growing Plum Regal Hybrid Roma Paste Tomato

‘Plum Regal’ is a hybrid Roma tomato prized for its rich flavor and excellent performance under disease pressure. Bright red plum-shaped fruits average about 4 ounces and contain solid, meaty flesh with few seeds and very little cracking.

Start ‘Plum Regal’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 18 to 24 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Determinate plants reach about 3 to 5 feet and are well suited to smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 72 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and bright red maturity.

Dense, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Plum Regal’ is excellent for sauces, pastes, salsa, roasting, canning, juicing, and everyday cooking.

Seeds germinated

We planted 30 Plum Regal and 30 Mountain Merits and had 54 of 60 germinate within a week. These species have done well for us in the past in south central Pennsylvania.

Plum Regal performed well in this rainy MA summer. Lots of thick, meaty tomatoes on compact plants.
