Growing Information

Growing Ping Tung Long Heirloom Eggplant

‘Ping Tung Long’ is a distinctive Taiwanese heirloom eggplant prized for its glossy dark lavender fruits, mild sweet flavor, and tender white flesh. This variety is especially dependable in hot, humid conditions, continuing to produce steadily through summer while offering strong disease resistance.

Start ‘Ping Tung Long’ indoors for transplanting about ¼ inch deep. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart and grow in full sun. This variety is noted for excellent disease resistance and performs especially well in warm, humid climates.

Ready to harvest in about 65 days, begin picking the fruits once they reach their mature size and develop their characteristic glossy lavender color. Harvest regularly while the fruits are still firm and tender for the best eating quality.

Sweet, mild, and versatile, ‘Ping Tung Long’ is excellent for roasting, sautéing, grilling, stir-fries, and everyday cooking.

Excellent Germination

Planted with seed starting mix. Germinated very well. Be patient with eggplant seeds. They usually take a few more days than stated on seed packet.

Abundant crop

Last year was the first time I grew this variety. Even tho I have a very small garden, and I crowded the plants, they were prolific. I gave away as many as I cooked. Great flavor, healthy plants and kept producing until frost.

Great egg plant

They produce well, easy to grow, most of all we really liked the flavor and the seeds are smaller than the regular egg plant.
