Growing Information

Growing Mesilla Hybrid Cayenne Pepper

‘Mesilla’ is a cayenne pepper prized for its familiar heat, thin walls, and wide range of culinary uses. Bright green, slightly curved and wrinkled pods mature to red, providing classic cayenne flavor in fruits particularly well suited to drying.

Start ‘Mesilla’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep and space plants 18 to 24 inches apart. Grow in full sun. This variety is noted for good disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick peppers green or allow them to mature fully red depending on your intended use.

Hot, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Mesilla’ is excellent for drying, roasting, frying, fresh eating, pepper sauces, pastes, and crafts.
