Kentucky Blue Pole Bean
Growing Kentucky Blue Pole Bean
‘Kentucky Blue’ is a vigorous pole bean and 1991 All-America Selections Winner that combines the best qualities of its ‘Kentucky Wonder’ and ‘Blue Lake’ parentage. Tall, sturdy vines produce exceptional yields of straight, round green pods with a tender texture and sweet, classic bean flavor. Strong resistance to rust and Bean common mosaic virus adds to its dependable garden performance.
Sow ‘Kentucky Blue’ directly in the garden about 1 inch deep after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Space plants about 2 inches apart and grow in full sun. Vines typically reach 5 to 8 feet tall and require a trellis, fence, or other sturdy support.
Ready to harvest in about 57 days, begin picking the 6- to 7-inch pods while they are still young, crisp, and tender. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production and maintain the best texture and flavor.
Sweet, tender, and productive, ‘Kentucky Blue’ is excellent for fresh eating, cooking, canning, and freezing.
