Growing Information

Growing Italian Tree Tomato

‘Italian Tree,’ also known as ‘Climbing Trip-L-Crop,’ is an heirloom tomato prized for its extraordinarily vigorous growth and huge yields. Fast-growing vines can reach 15 to 25 feet and produce extra-large, bright red, meaty fruits with mild flavor and few seeds.

Start ‘Italian Tree’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety requires a strong trellis to support its vigorous vines.

Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and mature bright red color.

Mild, meaty, and highly productive, ‘Italian Tree’ is excellent for fresh eating and slicing.

My plants started off strong, but where affected by blight right away. The tomatoes were tasty, but small.

Taste! Taste!

I avoid tomatoes that are lobed and lumpy, but these are worth it for the outstanding flavor.
