Growing Fairy Tale Hybrid Eggplant

‘Fairy Tale’ is an award-winning hybrid eggplant and 2005 All-America Selections Winner prized for its early maturity, striking color, and gourmet-quality flavor. Compact plants produce clusters of 4 to 6 elongated lavender fruits with beautiful white striping. The tender flesh is sweet, succulent, nearly seedless, and completely bitter-free.

Start ‘Fairy Tale’ indoors for transplanting about ¼ inch deep. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart and grow in full sun. Its compact growth habit makes this variety especially well suited to containers and smaller gardens.

Ready to harvest in about 50 days, begin picking the fruits once they reach their mature size and develop their characteristic lavender-and-white striping. Harvest while the fruits are still firm, glossy, and tender for the best eating quality.

Sweet, tender, and flavorful, ‘Fairy Tale’ is excellent for fresh cooking, roasting, sautéing, grilling, and everyday kitchen use.

No, thanks

The seeds all germinated very well. I have abundant plants but no flowers which means it will yield no fruit. In addition, seed packets that were in this order didn't all contain the amount of seeds they stated, in fact, one packet was empty

So far so good

I started these inside for spring planting. Good germination rate. This is a variety that I've grown for a number of years and always get an over abundance of the sweet little eggplants

Excellent Seed

I only got around to planting some Fairytale eggplant I bought in April 2022 and I have 20 eggplants right now on two plants. Seed germination was excellent - not sure what the other reviewer did to germinate them. I germinate in a plastic bag with paper towel and then plant. I'm growing them in a tabletop hydroponic system. Very excited to try them!

Is this not a good year?

I have grown fairy tale eggplant before and really liked it especially for grilling. I don't know what the seed problem is this year, but I had to plant the whole packet of seeds to get just one seed to sprout. I am hoping this sprout will grow, but after three weeks it is still just sitting in its pot with just the seed leaves. It is in a pot in my greenhouse so it has not had to deal with our crazy weather this year. I start all my seeds in the greenhouse, but most of the new seeds I have planted have not sprouted, but the older seeds have sprouted.
