Growing Information

Growing Costoluto Genovese Tomato

‘Costoluto Genovese’ is an Italian heirloom tomato prized for its deeply ribbed fruits and hearty, full-bodied flavor. Large, deep red tomatoes have the dramatic shape associated with traditional Italian varieties and perform reliably through both hot and cooler conditions.

Start ‘Costoluto Genovese’ indoors for transplanting. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety maintains good production across a broad range of temperatures.

Ready to harvest in about 85 days, pick fruits once they reach full size and deep red maturity.

Rich, hearty, and distinctive, ‘Costoluto Genovese’ is excellent for fresh eating and slicing.

Too many ridges

All though the taste was good these tomatoes were next to impossible to peel for canning because of all the ridges. I ended up having to juice them just to get something useful.
