Bush Delicata Winter Squash
Growing Bush Delicata Winter Squash
‘Bush Delicata’ is an award-winning winter squash and 2002 All-America Selections Winner prized for its compact growth and sweet, nutty flavor. Attractive striped fruits reach about 8 inches long, weigh roughly 1½ to 2 pounds, and contain rich orange flesh with a sweet-potato-like character.
Start ‘Bush Delicata’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep, space plants 24 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. Semi-bush plants are well suited to smaller gardens and are noted for tolerance to powdery mildew.
Ready to harvest in about 90 days, pick fruits once fully mature and the striped rind has hardened. The thin skin is edible, eliminating the need for peeling.
Sweet, creamy, and convenient, ‘Bush Delicata’ is excellent for roasting, stuffing, baking, everyday cooking, and storage.
