Blue Hubbard Winter Squash
Growing Blue Hubbard Winter Squash
‘Blue Hubbard,’ also known as 'New England Hubbard,' is an heirloom winter squash prized for its enormous fruits, exceptional yields, and outstanding storage ability. Powdery blue-gray shells protect firm, dry yellow flesh with classic winter-squash character.
Start ‘Blue Hubbard’ indoors for transplanting or sow directly where conditions allow. Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep, space plants 18 to 36 inches apart, and grow in full sun. This heat-tolerant variety develops long, vigorous vines.
Ready to harvest in about 102 days, pick fruits once fully mature and the hard outer shell has developed.
Large, hearty, and long keeping, ‘Blue Hubbard’ is especially well suited to winter cooking and extended storage.
