Growing Information

Growing Be Sweet Edamame

‘Be Sweet’ is an early edible soybean prized for its sweet flavor, high protein content, and dependable production. Productive plants yield about 30 pods each, with 2 to 3 beans per pod, giving gardeners a generous harvest of nutritious, protein-rich soybeans. The beans can be enjoyed bright green as fresh edamame or allowed to mature into yellow dry beans for later use.

Sow ‘Be Sweet’ directly in the garden about ½ inch deep. Space plants about 6 inches apart and grow in full sun. This variety is especially well suited to home gardens and performs particularly well in Northern growing regions.

Ready to harvest in about 87 days, begin picking the pods once the beans inside are plump and well developed for fresh eating. For dry beans, allow the pods to mature fully and dry on the plants before shelling.

Sweet, nutritious, and versatile, ‘Be Sweet’ is excellent for fresh eating, canning, and drying.

Great edamame

It seems that no stores offer edamame seeds. We have bought these for years, and we love them. Good yield.
