Growing Information

Growing Aphrodite Hybrid Cantaloupe

‘Aphrodite’ is a hybrid cantaloupe prized for its remarkable fragrance, honey-like sweetness, and relatively compact vines. Closely related to ‘Athena,’ this variety matures a few days earlier while producing substantial fruits with rich aroma and flavor.

Sow ‘Aphrodite’ directly in the garden about ¼ inch deep and space plants 4 to 6 feet apart. Grow in full sun. Its compact vines make this variety especially useful in smaller gardens, and plants are also noted for good disease resistance.

Ready to harvest in about 72 days, begin checking fruits as they reach full size and develop their characteristic fragrance and mature color.

Fragrant, sweet, and flavorful, ‘Aphrodite’ is excellent for fresh eating, fruit salads, breakfast plates, and summer desserts.

Awesome melons!

Grew these side by side with Haileys Best and there was no comparison.. Aphrodite out performed in every way! These produced more, were bigger , tasted so much better and didn't rot or crack on the vines like Haileys best. This is going to be my go to from now on!

Super Large in both size and taste!

Last year, 2021, was my first year for this variety, and it will be my "Go to" mellon this year! When I saw the size they were growing to, I thought a Flat Flavorless mellon, but was pleasently surpirsed, with one of the best tasting mellons I ever tasted!

I bought started plant, and in spite of having ten mellons growing on a few vines in an area about 10 square feet, mellons were 8 to over 10 lbs each. Just one plant produced about 15 large mellons.

I wish there was a space here for a photo of them growing in my garden.
