A misnomer, as native to Jamaica. Also called “Chocolate Habanero.” Wrinkled fruits have a rich, smoky flavor unique to hot peppers. The only variety for Jamaica Jerk Sauce. Ripens green to chocolate.

Anyone else have 0% germination with these?

Purchased spring of 2025. Tried germinating 3 different times, twice in soil, last time paper towel method. I usually have 90%+ success rate but couldn't get a single one of these to pop. Very disappointing.

New variety in garden

I was intrigued by the beauty of a black pepper. 100% of seeds germinated by day 16 after planting. Seedlings are thriving. Fingers crossed that they will produce many peppers.
