Tomatoes
The Tomato is surrounded by a mystique and lore that makes it easy to see why it is the world’s most popular fruit (yes, botanically speaking, the tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable). And nothing else is even close: bananas are a distant second, followed by apples, oranges and watermelons.
The tomato is native to the Americas, first cultivated by the Aztecs and Incas by 700 A.D. European explorers returning from Mexico introduced the tomato to Europe around 1560 A.D., and it has only grown in popularity ever since.
Tomatoes are not only remarkably flavorful, but healthy too, being rich in Vitamins A and C, dietary fiber, and completely free of cholesterol.
