Peppers

Peppers rank just below the tomato among the world’s most popular fruits and vegetables. But the types of peppers available are far more varied than tomatoes. Sweet Bell Peppers are the types we normally associate with the species, but even they are no longer just the staid green types, but are now available in spectacular reds, oranges, yellows, golds, lime, chocolate, even near-white!  There are even bell peppers with heat! We call them “Spicy Hot Bells” and you’ll want to try them too.

Pepper Culture

Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before planting outside. Sow seed 1/4-inch deep in shallow containers in a sterilized seed-starting mix. Pepper seedlings taking 15 to 30 days (super-hot peppers take longer). Bottom heat may be needed. Transplant to individual pots when seedlings have at least 2 pairs of leaves. “Harden” seedlings to the outside before transplanting.
