Sample Carolina Reaper “Hottest Pepper in the World!”

Seeds ‘n Such owner J. Wayne Hilton issues a special invitation for our devoted customers to sample the “World’s Hottest Pepper,” as recently determined by the Guinness Book of World Records. He obtained very few seeds and personally grew off a small crop to be sold in this very limited first-year offer. Hilton explains:

Carolina Reaper matures in 95 days from transplant. “World’s Hottest Pepper,” please identify itself? The esteemed New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute currently recognizes Trinidad Moruga Scorpion as the world’s hottest chile pepper. But recently, the Guinness Book of World Records proclaimed a South Carolina-grown cultivar named ‘Carolina Reaper’ as the world’s hottest pepper, based on tests performed at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

“‘Carolina Reaper’ registered 1,569,300 Scoville units of heat (a measure of heat intensity) when recently tested, about 7% hotter than the 1,463,700 Scovilles when Guinness tested ‘Trinidad Moruga Scorpion’ back in 2011. So, at least in the opinion of Guinness World Records, ‘Carolina Reaper’ is now the hottest pepper in the world.

“Bright red, gnarled and lumpy with a scythe-like tail, ‘Carolina Reaper’ is a cross between Bhut Jolokia or ‘Ghost Pepper’ and a red habanero. The fruity flavor has a hint of citrus with sweet, chocolate-cherry undertones. Mature fruits are about the size of a ping-pong ball. The variety requires heat to germinate. The seed I offer is from a tiny crop I grew out this past summer in response to innumerable requests from my customers. This crop is my own production and was not purchased from a third party, so I can vouch for its authenticity.

“Supply of ‘Carolina Reaper’ is extremely tight this first year. I will offer this pepper at a special introductory price as my thank-you to any customer ordering at least $10 worth of other merchandise from my catalog.

“You can add one or two ‘Carolina Reaper’ 3-seed Samplers to an order that already totals $10 of merchandise or more. 55% germination. #3019, Sampler (3 seeds) $1.50. Strict limit of two Samplers per qualifying order. Samplers are not Packets and do not add to your total Packet count when calculating Packet prices,” Hilton concluded.
