We introduced Blue Ribbon in 2013 to try to rival the gigantic fruit size and great taste of the original Goliath. Now our new improved Blue Ribbon is the closest yet! It’s bigger than the previous strain of Blue Ribbon, but best of all, it is more disease resistant, smoother, more rounded and uniform and more widely adaptable than the previous strain. Now virtually no blossom scars! Described by breeders and trial gardeners alike as “the absolute ultimate in home-garden tomatoes. Even tastier than Big Beef!” Comparing Blue Ribbon to Goliath, Blue Ribbon is a bit rounder, more uniform, and has stronger disease resistance. Goliath is a little more productive. Both varieties are sensational. Try them both to see which you prefer!

One of my favorites

From the first time I planted this tomato I knew I would repeatedly grow it every year. It has great flavor, large size and is fairly blight resistant. It also has good production. I often cite it as one of my favorites.

Great Tasting Large Tomato

I grew these next to Better Boy tomatoes and these grew to larger sizes and resisted cracking to larger sizes than Better Boy. This was my first year planting these and these will be the only large tomatoes I plant in the future. 100% of the seeds I planted germinated. They were also fairly resistant to late blight and are a good compliment to the smaller disease- and stink-bug resistant Celebrity tomatoes.

This tomato made me give up Better Boy

I have been growing Better Boy since 1965 (57 years). I grew it in Connecticut, Vermont, and now in Florida, where conditions are really tough.
I thought I would never find a tomato I liked more than Better Boy. I was wrong.
Last September I started 6 Blue Ribbon seeds. They were transplanted into the garden around the 2nd week of November, and we picked our first tomato between Christmas and New Year. Since then, the production has been nonstop.
Unlike Better Boy, there are almost no deformed tomatoes. They are round, have an intense red color, and the flavor is a bit better than Better Boy.
Aside from being beautiful to look at, they make a great slicing tomato for sandwiches. Cut them into wedges and they are a great salad tomato.
Here in central Florida, the heat generally kills tomatoes by the middle of June. I am really looking forward to seeing how the plants hold up to day after day of temperatures in the mid-90s and nights in the upper 70s to low-80s. But for productivity, shape, consistency, and flavor, this will be the only slicing tomato I grow. Better Boy, it's been a great 57 years. But now I am leaving you for a new love. I only wish I had found it sooner.
